Noun
dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut kata benda adalah suatu part of speech yang
digunakan untuk menyebut atau menamakan seseorang, sesuatu benda atau suatu
konsepsi.
Jenis-Jenis
Noun (Kata Benda)
Noun
dapat dibagi ke dalam 2 golongan:
1. Proper noun ialah apa
yang dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut nama diri.
Contoh: Rodi, Sumirah, Yogi, Putri, etc.
2.
Common noun ialah nama benda:
Contoh: book, chair, tree, garden,
etc.
Selanjutnya common noun dapat
kita bagi lagi ke dalam:
A. Countable noun yaitu benda
yang dapat dihitung.
Contoh:
Chair Boy
Tree Girl
Book Woman
B. Uncountable noun yaitu kata
benda yang tidak dapat dihitung, yang kalaupun dihitung bukanlah bendanya itu
sendiri tetapi satuannya.
Contoh:
Water Air
Rice Ink

Secara
struktural, ada 4 cara untuk membuat compound nouns, yaitu:
1. Noun + noun
Contoh:
gold ring, time table, silver spoon
2. Adjective + noun
Contoh:
clever student, short man, good book
3. Past participle + noun
Contoh:
broken chair, fried potatoes, boiled egg
4. Present participle + noun
Contoh:
waiting room, sleeping beauty
